* If you do not have a water proof raincoat, borrow one, hire one, or as suggested to most, go to the Warehouse and purchase a yellow PVC jacket. They aren't the most attractive looking but will keep you just as dry as any other jacket out there.
** It is important to let the group leader know of any health problems or medication you may be caring. It is also wise to give you trip leader spare medication in case yours becomes lost.
*** In my personal experience from leading trips the Mug, bowl, and cutlery is the most forgotten item when packing. Its not much watching everyone else eat while you wait to borrow their utensils.
**** Insect repellent is a must for a lot of places we go. New Zealand may not have deadly snakes, spiders or bears, but I guarantee that sandflies are the next worst thing.
Although your group leader will most likely caring a First Aid kit it is wise to also carry a personal First aid Kit with strapping/sticky tape, blister prevention pads and painkillers. Some of the more social trips usually require a hangover cure as well.
